LED Temperature Calculations

T(Junction) = 80C (Maximum datasheet temperature)

T(Star) = 39C (Measured at maximum power)

T(Ambient) = 24C (Measured ambient temperature)

 

RΘ(J-S) = (80C - 39C)/(.8W) = 51.25 C/W

RΘ(S-A) = (39C - 24C)/(.8W) = 18.75 C/W

Touch Temperature = 45C (This is the maximum temperature that the body can withstand without releasing a heated object)

​

39C < 45C

​

No heatsink is required seeing that the star temperature will never get reach the touch temperature.
